Connecting with mothers and mothers-to-be in my own ​community is my calling. This is what I have been doing in some ​capacity for the past 20 years. The magic is being at that sweet ​spot in life where I am very clear about who I am and how I want ​share all that I know, both as a mother and as a birth worker. ​This means that this relationship is always mother led with the ​mother as the absolute authority on what is best for her and for ​her baby. My goal is to meet her where she is at and share the ​truth as I know it, but never with intent to convince, judge or ​coerce decision making.

My favorite chosen connections are ones that happen because of word of ​mouth from other women in my community. Some woman contact me ​because they know exactly what they want. Other women reach out to ​explore information or options. I invite you to message me so we connect ​by phone or Zoom. (Or call me directly if you have been referred to me). ​This way I can share my background and answer questions about myself. I ​would love to hear what your dreams and fears are. This may be about ​your birth or trying to figure out feeding your baby or processing what you ​have been through. How do I communicate all that I have observed ​and experienced in 20+ years in birth that has ​been so beautiful and shattering and powerful ​and transforming? How do I explain the naive ​trust that I had as a brand new nurse and at the ​same time, a brand new mother-to-be? How do ​I explain the evolution in how I birthed and ​mothered was directly intertwined with what I ​experienced in my work in birth? I will try to find ​the words.

I’m “Caya”

When I was 15 years old, I would ride a bus to a used book store and buy ​Midwifery and herbal medicine books and magazines. I still have some of ​them! In my early 20's, while living in Oakland, CA, I became a birth ​assistant/intern to a traditional home birth Midwife, learning what birth and ​breastfeeding could be like. Within a few years, I had my first child in a ​hosptial under Medi-cal as I started my first nursing job after nursing school. ​Both were shattering experiences. I worked as a Labor & ​Delivery/postpartum RN for a few years and quickly pivoted to becoming a ​Lactation Consultant.

I have spent 15 years working part time as a Lactation Consultant mainly ​within a large HMO hospital system in Solano County. I birthed and ​mothered more children in and out of the system. At the same time, over ​the years, I have worked as a Maternal-Child Public Health Nurse, Home ​Birth Assistant, Birth Center RN, homeschooled, attended Midwifery school, ​and on/off had a small private practice. It was through these connections ​that I would periodically be invited to women’s births through word of ​mouth. Through all of this, I have been unlearning and reclaiming the ​wisdom of the my lineages. I have self studied. I have completed hundreds ​of courses from people I allign with and want to learn from. This has ​included traditional birthing knowledge, authentic Midwifery, holistic ​lactation, ancestral foods, land tending and medicine making. After ​completing the “Radical Birth Keeper’s School” in 2023, I became real ​clear about how I was going to exist in the world. My private practice ​reflects all of this.

A 1 hour session to discuss anything ​that is on your mind about pregnancy, ​birth, postpartum or breastfeeding. ​Some topics we can explore are your ​birth options, birth education, past ​birth/breastfeeding experiences or ​questions that have surfaced about ​your care. I am able to share my ​knowledge about how the medical ​maternity system works from the ​inside (experienced in hospital, birth ​center and home birth settings). I am ​here to support you in exploring your ​options, harnessing your authority ​and taking responsibility for your ​story.
